DAY 6 — LISTENING TO GOD’S VOICE

Updated: Jan 18

Scripture Reading: “Be still and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10

In the constant noise of life, amidst the relentless hustle and bustle that characterizes our modern existence, listening to God’s voice requires a deliberate and intentional effort. This is not because God is silent or absent; rather, it is because we often find ourselves too busy, distracted, or overwhelmed by the cacophony of our surroundings to truly hear Him. His voice does not compete with the overwhelming noise of the world; instead, it is revealed in moments of stillness and quiet contemplation, beckoning us to pause and reflect.

God is still speaking today, as He has throughout history, but His voice does not always come with the volume or urgency that we might expect. Often, it is found in the gentle whispers of silence, in the soft impressions on our hearts, and in the words that bring peace and direction amidst chaos. To hear Him clearly, we must first learn the art of stopping—stopping our thoughts, our activities, and our incessant striving.

Stillness is not to be mistaken for passivity; it is a profound spiritual posture that we must actively choose to adopt. It involves a conscious decision to silence the myriad of other voices that clamor for our attention so that God’s voice can be heard above the din. When we quiet our hearts and minds, our spiritual sensitivity sharpens, enabling us to recognize His guidance more clearly and to discern His will for our lives with greater ease.

Today, God is not asking you to speak more, to fill the air with your prayers or requests, but rather to listen intently. In His presence, silence itself becomes a powerful form of worship. As we take the time to listen to His voice, we discover guidance, comfort, and unwavering truth that illuminate every step we take on our journey. This practice of listening can transform our relationship with Him, deepening our faith and understanding.

Prayer Focus:

  • Ask God for an attentive and sensitive heart, one that is eager to hear His whispers and discern His will.

  • Surrender both the internal and external noise that distracts you from His presence, allowing space for His voice to penetrate your thoughts.

  • Learn to wait patiently in silence before Him, cultivating a spirit of expectancy and readiness to receive His guidance.

  • Ask for discernment to recognize His voice amid the chaos, so you can follow His leading with confidence.

Prayer:

Lord, today we choose to be still before You, setting aside the distractions and noise that so often cloud our minds. We silence other voices and open our hearts wide to hear Yours. Teach us to recognize Your voice amidst the clamor of life and to obey Your leading without hesitation. May we find Your peace and truth in the quiet moments, and may our souls be refreshed in Your presence. In Jesus’ name, amen.
